In the future I am going to share with you every week my favourite articles.

Don’t worry. I am still going to continue writing my on stories, like the upcoming big data platform blueprint.

1 Amazing Deep Learning Talk

Baidu’s chief data scientist Andrew Ng recently gave a great talk about how to apply deep learning.
The talk was at the 2016 deep learning school ( with a lot great speakers. A tip: Check out the other talks at the event linked in the comment section of the video.

2 What is hardcore data science – in practice?

Doing one time data science to discover new insight is only half the job. Bringing algorithms into production is the other half. Mikio Braun from the online fashion platform Zalando wrote an informative article how to do it:

Experts are sure. At some point within the next 30 to 35 years it will be possible to create superhuman intelligence. Machines will be a lot smarter than we humans are. Vernor Vinge wrote an excellent article about this topic. It will influence every single one of us in the future.

Cancer research to find a cure is a topic very dear to me. I personally have lost some family members to this horrible disease. Therefore I am very happy that big data can help:

Robots are taking over more and more simple jobs. This Ars Technica article shows how robots are currently revolutionizing work at Amazon, DHL and other companies

6 Elon Musk’s plans for Mars colonisation

Elon Musk wants to colonise Mars in the next 100 years or so. The target price for moving a person to Mars is planned to be the cost of a house. Space X will bring you there.

Are you thinking about joining a startup? Or are you leaning more in the direction of a big company?

8 True Artificial Intelligence Will Change Everything

Another great talk about machine learning on Youtube is from Jürgen Schmidthuber a German Professor and machine learning expert. He and his team are especially working with long short term memory systems. These systems deliver us near perfect hand writing recognition or Googles speech to text function.

9 Book of the week: Zero to One

Silicon Valley icon, venture capitalist and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel wrote Zero to One in 2014. I think it is an excellent read about innovation I recommend to everybody working in the field of big data and data science. Zero to one stands for the process of innovation. The process of creating something new from zero.
